Expat / Life Coaching

As an Expat / Life Coach I can provide specific support for you and the accompanying family members.

Scenario; Just arrived

Relocating means losing all or much of your support systems at once and that often leads to an emotional roller coaster. Understanding the phases of a potential culture shock, knowing how long it really can take to even begin to feel at home, recognizing signs for relationship problems and being ready to cope with unhappy children, loneliness, homesickness, frustration and boredom are all vital skills and essential to a smooth and seamless transition. Settling-in is crucial. What are your expectations for your new life? How do you effectively create a home in your new location? What works best for you; designing a welcoming physical space, building a social network early on or creating routines and rituals, to cite a few examples, I can guide you through the process of settling in and help you find home wherever you are.

Scenario; Everyday life

You have now lived in your new home/country/city for some time and maybe starting to feel at home, relaxed and confident or you are feeling stuck, your expectations were not met, you are missing a purpose or your children are doing well and it’s time for you to move on, with what, and how? Does it feel like something is missing? Are you looking for ways to feel more settled, satisfied or fulfilled in your new life? Together, let us explore where you are, where you would like to go and how to get there.

Scenario; Next move

You have just got the news, or you are considering another move. To a new country/city/life. What was your reaction, are you ready to start all over and what are your options? Share your thoughts, expectations and fears and let us create a plan to make this step on your life journey a smooth and positive experience.

What is coaching?

Different than therapy, coaching is grounded in the present and the future and not the past. As such, coaching creates action-oriented goals. Coaching provides the opportunity to receive immediate feedback from a trusted and non-judgmental person. A safe and trusted space is created for the client to try out new behaviors and strategies before implementing them in the host country work environment or in a personal setting.

The role of a coach is to walk by the client, if you will, and provide motivation, inspiration, and tools to keep the client in action. A coach has heightened listening skills (in hearing what was said as well as what was not said), is able to provide personal and professional development tools and have personal enjoyment in helping the client to define and meet their goals.

As the life of a family is constantly in change – emotionally as well as physically, Expat / Life coaching can be done in a flexible manner. Zoom, What’s App, Facetime, Face-to-face, telephone, e-mail - all are suitable options for receiving coaching, based on the logistical realities as well as the needs and desires of the client.

Expat / Life coaching provides in-the-moment support and meets the client(s) exactly where they are at that moment. Coaching is a dialogue between the client and the coach to establish values, beliefs, and goals and to then identify a plan to meet these goals. By asking the right questions, having the right tools and techniques to empower the client to find the answers suitable for him/her. This is what makes the coaching relationship different than a consulting relationship.

My services, Expat / Life Coaching follows the core competencies of ICF, International Coach Federation. Diploma from 2007 in Stockholm, Sweden.
